Shrubs Wood was the favorite family home of Dame Bridget D’Oyly Carte for 49 years. The house was frequented by many of the celebratries of the period, including the conductor and pianist Sir Malcolm Sargeant. Here Dame Bridget persued her love of gardening and gave summer parties. Dame Bridget was head of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company which controlled the joint copywrights of Gilbert and Sullivan. The house has been a favorate setting for many historiacal TV plays and dramas, including Midsummer Murders, Poirot and Endeavour and has been a popular venue for the 1930’s Society. The D’Oyly Carte family owned The Savoy Group of Hotels, including Claridges, the Berekely and The Savoy, where Dame Bridget later assisted her father.
